19 August 2010
The assets of a Ukrainian bank have exceeded UAH 100 billion for the first time in the history of the domestic banking system's development, PrivatBank's (Dnipropetrovsk) press service has reported.

By the middle of August, the bank's assets were UAH 101.166 billion, which is UAH 15.1 billion up compared to the figure as of the start of the year.

"The increase in the bank's assets since the start of the year was seen due to the increase in interbank credits by UAH 3.849 billion, credits of legal entities by UAH 12.403 billion," a statement reads.

As reported, the bank's assets in January to June 2010 grew by 13.3%, to UAH 97.469 billion.

To compare: the assets of the largest Polish bank, PKO Bank Polski, by the end of the first quarter of 2010 were PLN 156.7 billion ($51.1 billion according to the current currency exchange rate), the largest bank in Russia, Sberbank, as of late July 2010 – RUR 7.597 trillion ($249.8 billion).

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, as of July 1, 2010, the total assets of Ukrainian banks were UAH 885.256 billion.

According to PrivatBank Board Chairman Oleksandr Dubileta, the growth in the bank's assets shows the restoration of the public trust in the banking system, as well as stabilization on the market after the economic crisis.
