Maratex hopes to bring up to two new brands to Ukrainian market in 2012
01 November 2011
Maratex, the operator on the retail clothes store market, is in talks with around ten new brands on their entrance to the Ukrainian market, and hopes to bring two brands to the market next year, Maratex Director in Ukraine, Dmytro Yermolenko, has said.

"We're in talks with around ten brands, discussing their entry to Ukraine. However, the situation in Ukraine today is difficult. I think that next year we'll bring around one or two brands to the market. We're looking at the segment that is mid-way between Esprit and Peacocks in price," he told the press at the Retail Industry Forum in Kyiv on October 28, 2011.

He also said that the company is considering opening three or four stores under the brands in the company's portfolio in the Ocean Plaza trade and entertainment center, which is being built at 176, Antonovycha Street in Kyiv. Currently the company is developing stores under the ALDO, Esprit, Peacocks and River Island brands, while the company has six brands.

Yermolenko also said that at present the company is holding negotiations on the creation of a joint venture with Peacocks and River Island brands.

"There is preliminary agreement with the Peacocks and River Island brands to create a JV on the three markets in which we are present – Russia, Ukraine and Poland. I think that by late Q1, 2012 the issue will be finalized," he said.

Yermolenko has not disclosed the company's plans for its development in Ukraine for next year, as they depend on the creation of the JV.

Currently Maratex has 26 stores in Ukraine, including 19 in Kyiv.
