Social and macroeconomic situation in Ukraine (January-February 2010)

Industry. February production climbed 5.6% YoY, a trend observed in all sectors of industry.
Agricultural sector. During January- February total production of farm industry increased by 5.2% comparing to the respective period in 2009 (including growth of agrarian companies 12.4% and decline of private farm business 0.8%). The total volume of production in agriculture sector in current prices is 1.2 bn. USD.
Construction During January- February building and construction works were executed in the total amount of 0.41 bn. USD which is 79.1% comparing to similar period of previous year.
Transport. During January- February 2010 transport companies carried 109.6 mln. ton of freight which is 12.5% more comparing to January- February 2009. Freight turnover grew by 15.3% and composed 58.5 bn. ton-km. The total volume of passenger transportation services dropped and made 92.7%.
Export. The total export volume in January 2010 is 376.5 mln. USD and grew by 23.6% comparing to the respective period in 2009. The total volume of import in January 2010 is 415.0 mln. USD and grew by 63% % comparing to the respective period in 2009.
Wholesale. Producer goods wholesale volume in January – February 2010 grew by 3.3% comparing to the respective period in 2009.
Retail. Nominal retail turnover (including retail turnover of retail companies and private entrepreneurs) in January- February 2010 is 8.3 bn. USD that is 95.3% comparing to the respective period in 2009. In structure of retail trade the share of formal and informal markets is 31.1%.
Price index. Consumer price index (CPI) in February 2010 is 101.9%, since the beginning of 2010 – 103.7%. Production price index (PPI) is 101.9%, since the beginning of 2010 – 103.8%.
Wages. The average current nominal wage of employees is 240 USD.
Labor market. As of 1st of March, an unemployment rate is 530.3 thousand. Which is 41.5% less comparing to the respective period in 2009.
Population. As of 1st of February population of Ukraine is 45.9 mln.
