Ukraine Welcomes Investment
30 May 2011
Head of Ukraine’s L’viv Regional State Administration Mykhailo Tsymbaliuk called on Iranian investors to play a more active role in his country’s oil exploitation projects.

“Given Iran’s progress in the exploitation of oil and other natural resources, we will be glad to have Iranian investors here,” Tsymbaliuk said in a meeting with a visiting Iranian media delegation.

“We pledge to provide all the necessary conditions for such investment in L’viv,” the official stated, Fars News Agency reported. He pointed to the rich oil, gas and coal reserves in his state, and noted that L’viv seeks to attract foreign investments to carry out its industrial and economic development.

Meanwhile, former Ukrainian prime minister, Anatoly Kinakh underlined his country’s eagerness for the further development of economic and trade relations with Iran, saying that Kiev has a ‘Look East’ strategy.

“There is a serious will in Ukraine to expand cooperation with countries like Iran,” Kinakh said in a meeting with the Iranian media delegation. He called on Iranian businessmen and investors to have a greater presence in the Ukrainian market, saying, “Our tendency towards the East is a strategic one.”

Noting that Ukraine exports nearly 60 percent of its products, Kinakh lamented that trade between Tehran and Kiev is not proportionate to the two countries’ potentials and capacities. He underlined the need for further increase in Iran-Ukraine trade ties.

Iran has been seeking to bolster ties with Eastern Europe, particularly Ukraine, in the political, economic and cultural spheres in recent years.
