Investor sees huge opportunities in Ukrainian books market
9 April 2010
Bogdana Khmelnitskogo is a street located in the heart of Kyiv centre – and considered one of the most attractive places among retailers and “goldmine” for its owners. Rent price on this street is around $ 100 per square meter. Mostly luxury-goods retailers and less often - sellers of middle segment of clothes and footwear located on this street. Very surprisingly was appearance of announcement about opening the book store "Chitay gorod" (read - city) in one of the largest retail space on this street. New book store in Kyiv rents 1.2 thousand square meters with monthly costs more than USD 70 thousand.

Russian company “Bukvoed” the owner of book store chain "Chitay gorod" sees huge potential in Ukrainian book market and hope to increase its profits very soon. While Russian book market has not been showing growth dynamic for several years – some Ukrainian book retailers increased their turnover by 15-16% yearly despite difficult economic situation in the country. Besides, Ukrainian market is still far from saturation and opens great opportunities for business – believes “Bukvoed”.

The company will compete with other foreign companies who has entered Ukrainian book market long before and occupied strong positions. Additional risks bring new technologies such as e-books and on-line selling that become more popular among people.
