10 May 2011
Ukraine plans by 2016 to increase fruit and berry production by 1.5 times compared to 2010, to 436,600 tonnes, the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry has said.

According to the ministry, this level of production is expected due to the implementation of the state program of reimbursement for gardening financial costs until 2025.

It is planned that in 2020 Ukraine will increase fruit and berry production to 1.119 million tonnes, and in 2025 the figure will be 2.257 million tonnes.

In 2010, fruit and berry production grew by 30% and amounted to 286,800 tonnes.

According to the ministry, last year farmers planted 42,800 hectares of vineyards and 42,700 hectares of fruit plantations. In 2010, about UAH 49,400 was allocated from the national budget to plant one hectare of fruits and berries, which is UAH 4,000 up from 2009.

In general, last year the ministry allocated UAH 160.9 million to plant vineyards and UAH 131.4 million to plant gardens.
