Azarov: Ukraine's gross domestic product grows 5%
9 November 2010
Ukraine's GDP grew 5% in the first nine months of the year, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at the Vienna Economic Forum.

"Ukrainian GDP in the first nine months was 5% compared with a 15% contraction last year. Over 250 major investment projects have begun operation, retail trade and consumer buying power have increased," Azarov is quoted in a government statement as saying.

It was reported earlier that Ukrainian GDP rose 5.9% in the second quarter compared with the same period in 2009 and by 4.9% in the first quarter.

The government officially forecasts GDP to grow 3.7% in 2010 and to accelerate to 4.5% in 2011, which corresponds to the International Monetary Fund's forecast.

Deputy Prime Minister Sergiy Tigipko has said GDP growth in 2010 will be at least 4%.
