Adidas expects sharp growth in Ukraine, CIS region with Euro 2012 games
14 October 2011
Known for its three-stripe design, sporting goods giant Adidas said it expects record soccer sales next year as Ukraine and Poland co-host the European soccer championship finals, Chief Executive Officer Herbert Hainer said in Moscow on Oct. 10.

The world’s second largest sports apparel company after Nike said 2012 revenue in the soccer goods category will surpass the $2 billion it made in 2010, after changing little this year. In 2010 the group generated $16.4 billion in sales.

“All [the] signs are positive. I’m fairly optimistic for our company,” Hainer told journalists.

Adidas expects its sales in the Russia/Commonwealth of Independent States region to exceed $1.36 billion by 2013, up from $1 billion last year.

The Herzogenaurach, Germany-based company says it is the market leader in Russia/CIS, where soccer, running and outdoor items are among its key products.

Adidas is an official partner of European soccer’s governing body UEFA for the Euro 2012 finals, which kick off in June. It also provides the kit for the Ukrainian national soccer team.

As an official sponsor, supplier and licensee of Euro 2012, Adidas provides the official match ball and supplies the equipment for all officials, referees, volunteers and various youth programs such as ball kids and player escorts.

It has supplied sportswear to Soviet national teams since the 1960s and opened its Russian office in 1992, and plans on having 800 stores in the region by the end of this year, and another 400 by 2012, the CEO said.
